    • Excellent Pho !!

We stopped in to check out Van's after it was recommended to us. We found ample street parking nearby.

We were warmly and enthusiastically greeted at the door and shown to our table. We arrived just before the dinner rush on a weekend and found the dining room sparsely populated....and thought "UH-OH!"

Then, in a steady stream, diners began arriving and settling in. Soon there was a line at the door. YEA!

The Pho and other vietnamese dishes were wonderful, fresh and tasty; and the service was very efficient. The 1/2 Roast Duck was some of the best we've eaten in the U.S.!

By all means, go to Van's. Beware...they're closed on Monday!

    • Came here last Friday night as we were heading up to Killington for the holiday weekend. We decided to stop by here, seeing that Albany was about halfway between NYC and Killington. This place got a decent number of 4+ star reviews here on Yelp, so we decided to give this place a shot.

As soon as we got in, a very friendly waiter greeted then seated us. This restaurant was really big, unlike the super cramped dining rooms that are typical of Vietnamese restaurants in NYC. The menu was large, and the 4 of us decided to share some appetizers along with our entrees. One of my companions on the trip was a fellow vegetarian, so we decided to share an order of vegetarian summer rolls, which came with some nicely seasoned tofu. For my entree, I got their spicy tofu dish, which had a nice kick to it. One thing worth noting about all of their entrees: they were all HUGE. Yeah, they're kind of pricier than what you would see in other Vietnamese restaurants, but the portion sizes definitely made up for it. My boyfriend order a rice wrap dish that came in a rice wrapper container that had a separate vessel that was filled with warm water. I've never seen one of these contraptions before, and I'd love to get one for myself now!

My other companions all enjoyed their respective dishes as well. The service was super friendly, and we all left with our tummies full of yummy food. If I'm ever back in Albany, I'd want to stop by here again.

    • We are fairly new to Vietnamese cuisine but certainly not rookies. Van has become our go to Vietnamese restaurant. We wish they offered those delicious ban mih (sp) sandwiches, however every dish we have tried at Van's has been outstanding...If you want atmosphere and wannabe American style Vietnamese food go somewhere else. If you want authentic, delicious, flavorful food with sincere concerned friendly service, Van's is the place. Van's is one of those hidden unheralded treasures.
